She’s amazing, a go getter, an inspiration for young women who want to make it in the digital media industry. Wait for it…not just in the mainstream media but YouTube to be specific. If you do not know her or haven’t watched any of her YouTube episodes, then you need to.

This is especially if you are in the marketing or digital media industry and you are trying to hit your sales goals before the year ends. And as you will find out, there are more ways to maximize social media to work for your or companies’ goals.

She recently got a deal with NBC, A major TV network in the US (quite a huge deal) to start a talk show…and guess what, it all started with a YouTube channel. Her name is Lilly Singh and as mentioned, if you are in the digital media, or marketing, below are awesome career lessons to learn from this epic media mogul in the making.

1. Don’t be afraid to start small.
The idea of starting from scratch and working your way up is what big moves are made of. Lilly started a YouTube channel talking about topics that affect every modern day woman. And in this day and age, YouTube channels are how young people rake their day income. Next came endorsements from various cosmetic companies and wouldn’t you want to be Lilly right now?

2.Chase your dreams
How many times have you backed down from your dreams? Maybe someone said a YouTube channel wouldn’t work in Kenya. Or a YouTube channel for the company you work for would be a waste of time. It’s never too late to get the ball rolling. Find exciting, a strategy, a theme of ideas which would resonate with your audience and start off already!

3.Be Yourself
If there’s one thing that made Lilly’s channel flourish to 14.9million subscribers is, she is just herself. She says what’s on her mind and that’s why when she delves on a particular subject, you will pause and think, “wait a minute, that sounds like me or something I or my friends would do. And that’s what real marketing is all about, if you are real to yourself, then you are real and authentic to your audience. So, gents and ladies in digital media or brand management, find what makes Kenyans tick, get to know what do people talk about, get an angle and just go for it!

4.Embrace Change.
When big ballers come calling, don’t be afraid of change. If you are good at what you do, if you have an authentic brand, then you need to roll with the changes. Which is what Lilly has done. From Youtube, Brand Ambassador to a talk show host.

So yeah, if you work in the digital media industry, or a creative who would like to venture into that particular field, Lilly Singh’s career journey would be a great starting point for you.
