I. Mission of the Department: To ensure a high performing WWF-Kenya by embedding best People Management practices as key components of achieving WWF Kenya’s conservation goals.
II. Major Functions: Under the supervision of the Head of People & Culture, provide strategic HR guidance and support to the Organization. Ensure the implementation of Human Resource policies, procedures and systems for WWF Kenya, which are aligned to Strategic and Business Plans. The incumbent will also lead the implementation of a talent management strategy to ensure the recruitment, retention, development and motivation of appropriate numbers of skilled staff is maintained.
III. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Human Resources management
  • Provide guidance to the Head of People & Culture in the areas around the organisation’s talent acquisition and retention, delivery of leadership/training programmes, coaching and mentoring, Compensation and Benefits management, performance management and employee relations.
  • Partner with the OD lead in rolling out of change management initiatives.
  • Support the development and implementation of WWF Kenya’s people strategy.
  • Provide solutions to WWF-Kenya thematic leads and Programme managers human capital challenges and offer leadership support to the Programme and project leaders.
  • Develop, promote, communicate and implement the Health & Safety Management policies and procedures including; travel risk management, crisis/incident management, injury management, first aid and fire safety programs.
  • Support the Head of People & Culture in the development and implementation of leadership engagement, team development and performance management initiatives with the aim of building a high performance culture.
  • Recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation.
  • Manage and maintain employee-related databases and HR information systems used periodically to analyse reports for decision making.
  • Lead in the on-boarding and induction of new staff including training on HR policies and use of the SAP-HR modules.
  • Make recommendations to the Head of People & Culture in implementing a reward strategy.
  • Coordinate the sourcing, on-boarding and quality service delivery of People management service providers including health, travel, safety and life insurances in compliance with WWF-Kenya policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate an accurate and complete payroll process ensuring that all employment conditions, HR policies and fiscal legislation are fully complied with.
  • Keep abreast with changes to employment and labour relation laws and regulations governing people management practices and make recommendations on best practices.
  • Design, develop and support relevant learning and development, coaching and mentoring programs and actions to address identified skills development needs.
  • Conduct the recruitment and onboarding of key roles in liaison with the recruiting managers.
  • Work closely with budget holders to ensure the people and culture annual work plan is communicated and excellently delivered.
  • Collaborate with all staff and provide day-to-day focussed support to line managers on the performance appraisal system as required while adding value to the organisation through creative people management and relationship building.
  • Provide effective oversight and line management of staff reporting to him/her.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of People & Culture or his/her designate.
I. Profile:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Commerce or Business Administration or equivalent. Possession of an MBA or equivalent post-graduate qualification would be an added advantage.
  • A member of the Institute of Human Resources Management-Kenya (IHRM).
  • A minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in Human Resources; 3 of which should be in a mid-senior position.
  • Solid foundation knowledge and experience of all aspects of HR.
  • Demonstrable skills in the development of Human Resources procedures and systems preferably in the context of an international NGO.
  • Experience working with a payroll software, HRIS or ERP systems.
Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with both internal and external clients, and focus on being service oriented.
  • Excellent advisory skills and ability to promote team synergy in a multi-cultural work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, discretion and impartiality) are essential for this position.
  • Proven people management skills with strong ability to effectively communicate at all levels within the organization.
  • Proven experience in implementing change management and organizational development initiatives.
  • Ability to drive outcomes through influencing and networking skills.
  • Meticulous with keen attention to detail.
  • Able to identify and provide solutions which benefit the organization.
  • Positive attitude and an organized approach to work.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in multi-project settings, handle multiple and competing priorities.
I. Working Relationships:
Internal: Interacts frequently with the Senior Leadership Team and all WWF Kenya staff. Work closely with Programme Managers and Thematic leads.
External: Interacts with the People & Culture team at WWF-International. Maintains a close working relationship with relevant regulatory bodies and partner organizations such as FKE. Liaise with People management solutions service providers.
